Foreign Films and why you should watch them.

Time and time again, my friends have been against watching a foreign film, and I have come to terms with it. It isn’t a big deal, but I wish to share the experience of watching a good foreign movie with my friends. I understand I have a different passion for films than most people, and I’m willing to watch many movies that most won’t because they’re from the 1960s or it’s in French. To each their own, but I seriously believe people are missing out. I hope more popular foreign film releases, such as Parasite, will normalize viewing foreign films to the general public.

In recent years, people have become more open to watching foreign films due to Parasite winning what seemed like 100 different awards. It was so critically acclaimed that people who had never seen a foreign film had to watch it. I’m sure many people watched the English dubbed version of the movie, which, in my opinion, loses a lot of character as the voice acting doesn’t always do the acting justice. Despite an increase in foreign film viewers, I still believe that people should be more open to movies from different languages. There are countless examples of incredible films in other languages that most English speakers will never watch because they don’t feel like reading subtitles. These movies include Oldboy, Amores Perros, Amelie, and City of God. These are all movies I am delighted I viewed as some of the films named are in the list of my favorite movies; the story is told so well despite the language barrier.
