AI-generated music is a gift and a curse.

I am firmly against AI-generated songs, but I can see the appeal, and sooner or later, despite being against it, I could see myself listening to AI songs in my playlist. AI-related things have emerged recently, and people are already having difficulty deciphering whether this is an actual image or theme. An AI-generated Drake featuring The Weeknd song went viral on TikTok a few months ago, and while still recognizable, it was incredibly similar to the real thing. People listened to it on streaming platforms as if it were real. It won’t be long before the voice in these AI-generated platforms becomes unrecognizable to the listener, and we will be able to listen to any artist cover any song and make a song about anything we want.

Post Malone spoke on this exact topic on the Joe Rogan podcast a few months ago and stated that we can personalize songs made by specific artists within this decade. For example, someone will enter into their computer, “Post Malone song about Jessica breaking up with you this past summer, but you find love with this new girl Amanda.” You will have the most personalized song about your life within a minute. Part of me understands how incredible that is, but there is something so special about an artist singing to such a specific part of your life and relating to it. Connecting to a song is such a fantastic experience, and something about generating a connection to a piece of music by an artist within minutes or even seconds bothers me. I don’t like the speed at which the voices seem to sound like the real thing, as when a potential leak can be released from an artist on the internet, everyone is left to wonder, “Did they make this, or is this AI-generated?” I can see the appeal of getting more music from your favorite artists, especially if they hardly release albums or have passed away, such as Frank Ocean or Amy Winehouse. I will be listening in that case, but it still doesn’t feel right. I’m sure labels will intervene with the possibility of making a profit off of their artists. Still, this ability will get exploited, and the amount of AI-generated music will take over. It makes the listener more than happy, but this is terrible news for the artist, and it could ruin a lot of experiences and money for them. Only time will tell how AI will affect the world and the music industry.
